Most, if not all, of Lily's personality is shown to us through other's memories, and their recounts of her to Harry ( her son ) throughout the book series. Though there are a few things that are consistently said about her, besides the fact that Harry has his mother's eyes, and that is the fact that she was a very brave, kind, smart, and talented woman. A true candidate for Gryffindor, even if she had no idea what Gryffindor was before her train ride to Hogwarts. Which I think says a lot about the genuineness of her personality, if not just because it's been said that when you put on the Sorting Hat your very first night at Hogwarts, you can actually sway the opinion of which House the Hat puts you in, if you choose to. Since she had no clue either way, it must have based its decision purely on what was in her heart and mind.

Lily's bravery is shown to us in a number of ways, even as far back as when when was just a little girl. She's never hesitant to stand up for what she believes in, nor to stand up to people who are bullying her friends. Even if that happens to be the 'popular' guy in school. If she thinks you're being rude, or cruel, she'll tell you so. It might be dangerous as a Muggleborn student to speak out against students that are in Slytherin or are Pureblood supporters, but that doesn't seem to phase her at all. She won't sugar coat things if she feels her opinion needs to be stated, especially if it means standing up for someone that's being put down. Which.. might be annoying, if you're not the type to accept help from others, but she's quick to react to those situations. Quick enough that sometimes she doesn't even think about it first, she'll just jump in to defend if she thinks someone needs it, despite the consequences or how it might make her look to people outside of the situation.

That is yet another Gryffindor trait she possesses - her tendency to leap without looking. Lily's responsible and bright, sure, but when things get heated and she feels like she has to do something about it, she'll usually dive right in without a second thought. Especially if it has to do with protecting her friends and those she loves most. Though it's not just with fights and confrontation, but with her academic success as well. She'll be the first to volunteer to try out a new charm, and the first to volunteer at Dueling Club as well. She's very much up for a challenge of almost any kind, though it's all in good spirit. She's not competitive with anyone but herself, most of the time.

Which might be a result of that kindness everyone talks about. It's why she's willing to look out for others, why she's grown quite popular in school despite not being from a well-known wizarding family in the community, and why she's almost always willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. One thing she believes in unquestioningly is that love and friendship will always, always be a stronger weapon than any Dark Magic the world can throw at her. Being a Muggleborn during this time in the wizarding world is intimidating, to say the least, but she's very sure that if she remains a good person and strives to do what's right, and what's good, she'll be able to survive it. And she's always willing to extend that kindness to others, as well as trying to bring it out in them as well, encouraging them to do what's right and to look out for other people as opposed to being selfish, that kind of thing.

... Again, probably an annoying habit to some, but damnit she'll try.

Snape is the best example of her faith in people, and how far she'll bend before finally admitting 'defeat', in a way. At first, she talks about how she used to defend him to her friends over who he associates with and what he plans on doing after Hogwarts. It was clear she used to try and convince them that Severus wasn't a bad person, he was just in with a bad crowd. But now she knows, at this point, that he wants to be a Death Eater, and despite their strong friendship before, his refusal to deny that fact, and the fact that he hangs out with people who are downright evil and practice Dark Magic, has made it impossible for her to give him her loyalty as a friend. Which shows that she does try to see the best in people, but she's not naive enough to believe that everyone is genuinely good. Even if it breaks her heart to think that Severus is one of those people. She's only willing to go so far before her own gut instincts make it impossible to ignore someone that might take advantage of her good nature. There's also the matter of the Marauders, who don't dabble in Dark Magic, but they used to bully and pick on other students, which doesn't fly in her book at all. Well, Sirius and James bullied people, but Remus didn't do anything to stop them so really, he gets lumped in with them at times as well. Not that she holds it against them anymore! Things change. People change. ..Clearly.

I think that shows that while she does think the best of people, she's also a good enough judge of character to know when to keep her distance and guard herself, in a way. If nothing else, growing up at Hogwarts as a Muggleborn has given her the tough skin needed to get by without turning into a completely cynical person. She knows when to tread carefully ( ..sorta ) but she doesn't hold grudges unless a person directly hurts her or her friends. Though when she has found a reason to hold a grudge, it takes a lot to earn her trust back after that.

Gryffindor tendencies aside, while in school, Lily cared very much about her education and how she chose to spend her time at Hogwarts. She isn't a know-it-all or the type to lock herself in the library ( not too often ), but she will almost always prioritize schoolwork over going out. Almost. She likes going out and having fun as much as anybody else, as long as it follows the rules and doesn't put anyone in danger. She's smart about how she manages her time, making sure not to overload herself with school and extracurriculars at school, just so she knew she would have time to relax and hang out with her friends sometimes too. Exams and essays and homework were all important to her, but not at the expense of her own sanity. She buried herself in schoolwork because she wanted to make sure to make her most of her time at Hogwarts, and because learning magic is honestly very fun. She still feels that way! She never dreamed that she could attend a school and live in a world like this, so now that she's here? And it's real? She decided from the start that she was going to make the most of it. This is the positive attitude that she's known for to the professors of Hogwarts, and why she ended up being Head Girl at school her final year.

In the general, first impression sense, Lily is a very social girl with a sharp sense of humor and a tendency to be a little bit sassy smart with people once she gets to know them. She's the type of friend that's there for you when you need someone to talk to about most anything, and when you need someone to help lift your mood. She's a responsible girl, but she's also not afraid of a little mischief every so often as well. She's a glass-half-full, grass is quite green right here where she is kind of girl, and she'll always try and convince you of the same, too.

Now that she's out of Hogwarts, her life is.. significantly different than she ever thought it would be, and it has to do entirely with the people she's surrounded herself with. The vaguest explanation? She's a part of the Order of the Phoenix, which is a group of wizards who has chosen to fight against the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters in the name of equality for Muggles and Wizards alike. These are the types of people she's grown to love and care about the most, those who fight for good. Her most significant relationship is what she has with James Potter, her husband. She is head over heels in love with him, which is a far cry from the hostile relationship they shared in school, but. People change! She's a firm believer in that. Well, she was once he convinced her that he'd changed, during their seventh year. He's got a heart of gold, as it turns out, and being exposed to that side of him not only is what made her fall in love with him, but what made her love his best friends, as well. Peter Pettigrew, Remus Lupin, and Sirius Black have all earned their places in her heart as her best friends, the people she would do anything for without question. She's also quite close with the rest of the Order ( considering she grew up with some of them, and a small handful of the others were her favorite teachers at school ), but the Marauders are her family, simple as that. and none for severus snape bye
